Loutrophoros-amphora decorated in the red-figure technique. It was found in 1957 in the Sanctuary of the Nymphe in fragments, was pieced together and restored.

On the vase’s neck are depicted two women with their hair gathered in a sakkos, walking while looking back. On the body of the vase different moments of the wedding ceremony are presented. On one side, two youths, most probably the newlyweds, face each other for the first time after the removal of the bridal veil. The groom looks upon his adorned bride who has her hair gathered in a sakkos.

The vessel’s other side depicts the doorway to their new house, which is the groom’s ancestral home. The double entrance doors are framed by Doric columns. Next to them the groom’s mother awaits raising her right hand to welcome the couple.
